When I was a little
boy, there were frequent occasions each day when Mother would apply firm but
gentle pressure to my ear, lead me to a quiet and secluded spot, and suggest a
timeout. During these special times I was encouraged to reconsider my actions
and let Mom know when I was confident I could be a better boy. Now, in the early stages of my second
childhood, I find a thoughtfully administered regimen of supervised timeouts
once more essential to an acceptable and well-balanced behavior. SC
