If you’re exceedingly
blessed, you transition through the years, from having a granddad, to being a
granddad. It’s a bittersweet blessing, partly because at points along the way
you lose your own dad and granddad, and partly because you eventually face the
fact that filling their shoes is way more challenging than you’d expected. But we count our blessings and do the best we
can, in the hope that our own efforts are sufficiently successful that one day our
grandson will have fond memories of us, when the years have slipped away like
the golden leaves of autumn, and we’re only a collection of pixels. SC
