Once again Biblical Marriage is in the news. It’s an admirable goal, the perfect blending
of two unique individuals based almost exclusively on their genitalia. Nothing
less will suffice. The criteria are
simple: the groom is to be endowed with two functioning testicles. Based on
this superior endowment, the groom is to be the unquestioned head of household,
honored and obeyed in all matters, the supreme and unchallenged authority. The
bride, on the other hand, based exclusively on her genitalia, is to be the
subordinate, a meek, mild and obedient helpmate, submissive to the husband’s
needs and wants in all matters and duly respectful of his infallible
credentials. If you have achieved this remarkable and time-honored objective in
your own nuptial arrangement, I salute you.
Forgive me if I am skeptical.
In my humble opinion,
in this day and age in America, any and all gender biased, genitalia based
restrictions, requirements and exclusions are inevitably problematic. I’m not saying that’s a good thing. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. I’m simply making an observation.
For as long as
certain elements of certain religious organizations continue beating dead
horses, they will continue to become increasingly irrelevant. Christianity
today should be all about doing justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with
God through Christ. It should not be about enforcing archaic Hebrew legalism on
a diverse and weary populace searching desperately for Hope, Faith and Charity. It should
be about lifting up Hope, Faith and Charity and leaving conviction to God and
His Holy Spirit. SC
